“Entrance Fees & Park Rules”

Nyerere National park fees  : Entrance fees to Nyerere National Park is charged basing on the residence status of the tourist on a safari visit, there are three categories this Citizens, Residents and Non- Residents.

Citizens – refers to Tanzania Citizens with valid National ID/ Passport and citizens of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan who are in possession of valid passports.

Residents – refer to persons of any nationality residing in Tanzania with valid documentation from the Tanzanian government.

Non – Residents or Foreign residents – refer to foreign visitors who do not reside or work in Tanzania.

Children (child rates) – are persons from the age of 5 to 15 years. Persons under 5 years enter the park for free.

Students (student rates) – students are persons aged up to 23 years old, sponsored by a recognized learning institution and in possession of a valid student ID and visiting the park on a pre-arranged school – organized trip. Students must obtain permission to use the special rates at least two weeks in advance of their visit.

Note: Some of the well-known lodges and camps in Nyerere national park are located inside and they are best accessed from Mteremi and Maembwe Gates, these include Serena Mivumo River Lodge, Selous Serena Camp, Mbuyu Safari Camp, Beho Beho Camp, Stiegler’s Gorge Camp, Rufiji River Camp and Sand Rivers.

For all the visitors staying at these lodges and camps have to pay a rate of USD 50 per night per 24 hours.

How to Pay / Mode of Payment

Payments for Park fees in Nyerere national park can be made in two modes

  • Cash in US Dollars or Tanzania Shillings are accepted at the entry gates
  • Cashless modes are also typically accepted and you can pay via Visa & Mastercard.

Note: nationals of other East Africa member states must produce their passport at the entry gates to avail the cheaper East Africa rates.

Nyerere Park & Selous Reserve Rules

All national parks and destinations in Tanzania and other countries around the world have park rules put in place to ensure that tourists are able to enjoy their visit without endangering themselves or the wildlife in park.

Visitors are advised to respect the Nyerere national park rules and park officials who are there to protect visitors, the wildlife and the environment.

Below are Park Rules and Regulations:

  • Driving in the park is only allowed between 6 am and 6 pm only.
  • The  driving speed limit in Nyerere national park is 50km/h and 25km/h
  • Animals always have the right of way.
  • Never feed animals as it will upset their diet and lead to an unnecessary dependence on people.
  • Keep to the authorized tracks only during game drives.
  • Do not pick, cut or destroy any vegetation or remove any object of biological interest, including eggs, bones and trophies.
  • Camping in Nyerere national park is allowed only in designated sites.
  • Picnicking is allowed only at designated sites.
  • Do not disturb or harass the wildlife in any way. Radios and music players are forbidden. Please do not imitate animal’s sounds, clap or pound on vehicle or hoot. Do not throw objects to attract animal’s attention.
  • Do not litter, keep your waste in the vehicle until it can be properly disposed later at your lodge or camp. Litter can choke or poison animals and birds.
  • Do not smoke while on game drive and always dispose cigarettes carefully as aburning cigarette can start a wild fire that would cause damage to vegetation and suffering to wildlife and people.
  • Do not light or cause fire to be lit, If camping inside the park, be sure to extinguish your fire carefully.
  • All visitors must remain in their vehicle within 200 meters of any game animal, leaving the vehicle in the parks is forbidden except in designated places.
  • Discourage your driver from approaching the animals too close (25 meters), animals such as Lions, cheetahs and leopards are especially nervous. A vehicle can hinder their hunting or make them leave a hard earned meal. Your driver may be banned from the area and/or lose his job.
  • Domestic pets are forbidden entering Nyerere national park
  • Use or operating drones in Nyerere national park is not allowed.
