BIRDING SAFARI

Nyerere national park is a great birding safari destination hosting over 400 bird species found in their different natural habitats including lagoons, river Rufiji, swamps and vegetation found around the park. With an experienced bird guide, you will be able to see a variety of birds including palm-nut vultures, African fish skimmers, pink backed pelican, yellow-billed stork, African fish eagle, white crowned spur winged plovers, the hornbills and the white fronted bee-eater among others.

The best time of the year to do birding in Nyerere national park is during the wet season between November and April.

GAME DRIVES

Game drive is the most anticipated activities to do during your safari in Nyerere national park, though the park is not a popular destination for game drive as the parks in the northern circuit. The park is a home to large numbers of animals which you will easily see during your game drive from the comfort of your vehicle, some of the animals to lookout for include wild dogs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, black rhinos, hippos, buffalos, kudus, hyenas, impalas and waterbucks among others.

BOAT RIDE

Boat rides in Nyerere national park are the best way to explore the park and they are done along the River Rufiji and other channels, a boat ride offers clear views of animals and birds including elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes among others as they drink water.

FISHING

Fishing safari in Nyerere national park is a perfect way to relax while on a Tanzania safari, fishing is mostly carried out at the Rufji River although it can also be done on the smaller channels and swamps found within the park.

Visitors are advised to carry fishing equipments such as fishing rod, bait and life jacket, or you can rent them. Some of the fish species you will catch during the experience including Tiger fish and cat fish.

WALKING SAFARI

Nyerere national park is a great destination for walking safari, this amazing activities is organized in the offbeat tracks where most of the considered dangerous animals are not found and they are normally done during the morning hours and late afternoon during the dry season. This is because in the morning and late afternoon the heat is a little bit bearable, nature walks offer a close encounter with the animals and nature. In company of an armed ranger and guides you will be able to see some of the animals including elephants, hippos, zebras among others.

HOT AIR BALLOON RIDES

Hot air balloon rides in Nyerere national park offers the aerial views of the park and animals, Nyerere national park together with Serengeti national park are the only Tanzania safari destinations where hot air balloon rides are offered. The hot air balloon safaris are carried out very early in the morning and as you fly over the plains of the park you will enjoy spectacular sightings of the landscape, animals such as elephants, lions and birds from above.
